The Lil & I Concept
The Lil & I Concept
My vision is to create work that reflects a refuge from competition, noise, and perfection. Each piece invites you to sample something tangible, imperfect, and deeply human.
Lil & I embodies a conceptual wish to connect with nature and people, while living in urban environments that can often feel confusing and impersonal.
I want to step away from the traditional dynamic of viewer and artist and instead combine the two in an unfinished, yet active statement. This is why my work is signed Lil (my name) & I, and why I often use paper and wood as well as canvas for my works. I use a variety of mediums but focus on primarily oil based materials.
In the age of ever faster, louder, bigger competition, especially with technology which is a constant in our everyday living, I have intentionally tried to create space to pause and connect with something I find beautiful.
By using my hands and eyes, choosing to see something without technology, I'm creating a moment in time. When you stop and look at the piece, you are doing the same.
My work is a physical invitation to stop and breathe while you look at something that jogs a memory or thought. Hopefully something that can give you a moment's intimate reflection, and allow you to slow down.

Watercolour

Charcoal allows me to work instinctively, building depth and atmosphere through soft shadows and raw, imperfect marks that mirror the quiet weight of the landscapes I observe.
